FACILITY TOURS & HOSPITAL TRAINING
 
Objectives: The goals of the facility tours and hospital training will primarily be: 
  • To educate private and public organizations, such as: scout troops, church youth group, civic organizations, animal rescue groups and pet owners, on the capabilities and responsibilities of a full service companion animal hospital
     
  • To provide necessary training for the following items: Veterinary Medicine Merit Badge (Boy Scouts), Pets Award (Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Girl Scouts), Pet Care Award (Junior Girl Scouts) and Animal Award (Brownie Girl Scout).  It is the responsibility of the program attendee to provide the hospital with a copy of the required disussion points so the educator can appropriately cater the program meet the standards set forth by the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts of the United States of America.
General Plan: The classes will be scheduled for a single day and will last between 30 and 60 minutes depending on the needs of the group. Class size is flexible but should not exceed 25 with leaders/caperones as the training room at Telford Veterinary Hospital has seating for up to 18. This class is designed for pet owners and their families, pets are not to be brought into this program. This program is extremely versatile and can be expanded to a variety of needs including disaster preparedness, fire/evacuation emergencies, ect. as the hospital has public safety educators on staff to fill these specialized needs.
  

Age:
This program is designed for all ages of pet owners and their families. Classes will be catered to specific age groups as dictated by the needs of the overall group.
  

Mandatory Medical Requirements:
 There are no mandatory medical requirements for this program as it does not entail pets or physical activities.
 

General Program Outline:
 The following outline covers general areas of discussion in this program. Educators may, at their discretion change, add, delete or modify the content to meet the needs of the owners and participants.   
  • A room by room tour of the entire facility with detailed explanations hospital equipment and systems.
  • A discussion on educational requirements for veterinary technicians, hospital administrators and veterinarians as well as alternative occupations in the veterinary field.
  • Time for basic pet care demonstrations and review of typical pet diseases such rabies, parasites, etc.

Cost:
This program is provided FREE of charge as a public service to the greater community which we serve.  This must be scheduled with sufficient advanced notice as this program is based solely on educator and staff availability .
